The Bar Association of Albania has reacted again to the violence against lawyer Sokol Mêngjesi, who is in serious health condition after the violence committed by some people on May 29 in the area of ??the former Block.

In response, it is emphasized that violence against the lawyer is violence against justice, against the judge, the prosecutor, the bailiff and the notary.

"The Steering Committee of the House, for this serious criminal event, expresses its regret for the lack of a stance or punishment, by the body of judges and prosecutors, for what happened to our colleague", says the reaction.

It is further underlined that the Chamber of Advocacy will escalate its stance in order not to tolerate physical or psychological violence against lawyers, as well as in the protection of professional dignity and the interests of life, the health of their family members.

The Chamber of Advocates of Albania, with great concern, is continuously following the progress of the health condition of its colleague and at the same time professor of the Faculty of Law, Mr. Sokol MENGJ?SI. As a result of this very serious criminal act, which in the analysis of all the attitudes has been encouraged by the continuous denigration of the figure of the lawyer, starting from the evaluations of politics, of the state administration, of the body of judges and prosecutors, of some manipulative and malicious representatives of the media and the public, have inspired and nurtured such criminal excesses.

The Steering Committee in its meeting on Friday, May 31, 2024, calls on you and asks everyone, without exception, to respect and appreciate with special gratitude the role and contribution of the lawyer in the quality functioning of justice.

Violence against the lawyer is violence against justice, against the judge, the prosecutor, the notary's bailiff. The Steering Committee of the House, for this serious criminal event, expresses its regret for the lack of a stance or his punishment, by the body of judges and prosecutors, for what happened to our colleague.

We must point out that the legislator in a special article of the Penal Code, due to the important public role and activity, puts in qualified protection subjects such as the deputy, the judge, the prosecutor, the lawyer, the military and a number of subjects who exercise public functions.

The Chamber of Advocacy will escalate its position with the aim of not tolerating physical or mental violence against lawyers, as well as protecting professional dignity and the interests of life, the health of their family members.

In the hope that such acts of violence will not be repeated, we wish and pray for a speedy and complete recovery of our colleague Av. Sokol BREAKFAST.

The Steering Committee takes the opportunity to convey a special appreciation to the team of talented and dedicated doctors who, from the first contact and continuing, follow and care for Our colleague.

Also, we salute the Tirana State Police Directorate, for the professionalism shown in identifying, finding and capturing the authors of this barbaric act, who must be brought to justice.
