Tributes in Korça for the death of Skender Rusi, friends and family say

The well-known poet from Korça, Skender Rusi, passed away a day ago at the age of 72. Rusi is known as the lyricist of Albanian letters and as the poet who wrote so much about love.

Tributes are being held today at the "Andon Zako Çajupi" theater, where family members, relatives, friends, and politicians have bid farewell to the well-known poet. 

"I don't know what to say, it was extraordinary, I'm very worried. They worked together, you had wonderful poems," said one of his friends. 

"Skender Rusi was a very special friend, a great poet, a man with a very big, humane soul," said another of his friends. 

While the Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi said: "The loss of our lyric poet Skender Rusi is a great loss for our city. He had gained a status that will follow him forever. Now he seems to be part of the air of this city, that we will absorb every day. I have very personal memories with him and I will not forget them." 

The poetic creativity of Skënder Rusi is the greatest asset that the poet left to Devolli, where he was born and raised, and to Korça, where he spent most of his life, just as he left a poetic asset to all of Albania.

Skender Rusi was born in 1952 in Korçë and has completed his higher studies in Language and Literature. In 1984 he graduated in dramaturgy and in 1998 he became a library director in Cairo.

He has published 8 books of poetry and two of his plays have been staged by the "AZ Çajupi" theater troupe. His creations have been included in the anthologies of several European countries such as Germany, Switzerland, Macedonia, Kosovo, Greece, etc.

For 12 years, he has been the chairman of the Writers' Club "Bota e Re" in Korça.

For 7 years, he organized and directed the biggest cultural activity in Korça: "Korça Nights of Poetry" with invited poets from Kosovo, Greece, Macedonia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Italy, etc.

In 2021, Russia was awarded the title "Honorary Citizen" of Korça./  CNA
