After the deadline for submitting candidacies, 6 names have applied for the position of Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination at the Parliament of Albania.
The current candidates are:
Alfred Balla
Brunilda Menalla
Rosetta Ivanova
Genta Tafaj
Ermonela Xhafaj
Brikena Luto
The competition, which opened on 3 March 2026, envisages that the Commissioner will be elected with 71 votes for a five-year term, with the right to be re-elected only once. Candidates who want to advance to the next stage must secure the support of 28 MEPs.
It is expected that other applications sent by mail will be added during the day, while the process continues according to the rules established by the Commission for Human Rights and Public Information./ CNA
