"The Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language" now online

The Albanian Language Dictionary can now be accessed online as of yesterday .

The news was announced by the Center for Encyclopedic and Albanological Publications through a post on social networks.

The announcement states that the Academy of Sciences decided on January 6, 2026 to open the online platform of the Albanian Language Dictionary.

Starting yesterday, suggestions and opinions on improving the dictionary will be accepted for a period of nine months.

The largest dictionary of the Albanian language, starting today, online for users.

The Academy of Sciences of Albania, with decision no. 1, dated 06.01.2026, "On the opening of the online platform of the Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language", decided:

To open to the public the website of the online platform of the "Largest Dictionary of the Albanian Language", with the domain "fjalori.online", offering free access to it.

From the day of its opening, for a period of nine months, opinions, suggestions and additions are collected to improve the Dictionary.

After this period, the Dictionary Editorial Board and the Technical Coordinator, within a three-month period, reflect all the collected suggestions.

As of today, 12.01.2026, at 00:00, the page of the "Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language" has been opened to users, one of the three major projects in Albanology, along with the works "History of the Albanians" and "Albanian Encyclopedia", projects undertaken by the Academy of Sciences of Albania to promote our identity, history and thousands of years of cultural heritage.

A large team of drafters, editors and proofreaders worked on the "Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language", under the direction of Academician Jani Thomai as editor-in-chief and two deputy editors-in-chief, Academician Valter Memishaj and Prof. Dr. Shezai Rrokaj.

The final step will be the printing of the work in ten volumes next year.

The online platform is designed so that readers can interact with the dictionary on all digital devices.

This dictionary is a must-have for writers and publicists, for scholars and students, for teachers and pedagogues, for researchers and anyone concerned with the use and cultivation of the mother tongue.

It comes to the aid of all those who deal especially with the written language, but also with spoken language, with creations and translations, with the compilation of dictionaries of various types, etc.
