Public debate, is the closing of "TikTok" censorship or not?

Two days ago, the Rama government announced the decision to close "TikTok" in Albania. This decision was taken after 1300 meetings and surveys where over 90% of parents asked for the blocking of this platform.

In fact, this started as a result of the serious incident at the "Fan Noli" school, where a 14-year-old boy was killed.

For days there has been a public debate whether the decision to close "TikTok" is censorship or not.

There have been many reactions, saying that this is an electoral decision or that it is an act of censorship.

How can it be called censorship when in fact there are dozens of social networks where you can share and receive useful information.

Why is it censorship when we are dealing with a social network without filters, where it is permissible to use banal, vulgar language, where inappropriate content for a wide audience circulates on this social network.

Filters on "TikTok" are missing. It is a social network that does not control or filter the language that is used or the contents of the videos that are shared, thus bringing a negative impact on society.

There are dozens of reported cases of violence that starts on these social networks. We have seen many characters who become viral on the social network "TikTok" and curse, insult and speak with a language of hatred towards each other, degrading and escalating the debate to physical violence.

But beyond that, not only Albania is taking such a decision to block the social network.

Many other countries in the world are in the dilemma of whether or not to close this social network and are looking, researching, to limit access to "TikTok" for minors under 16 years old. Lawmakers from both major US political parties backed a law that would ban TikTok unless ByteDance agrees to sell it to a Chinese company.

They fear that the Chinese government could force ByteDance to hand over data on about 170 million TikTok users in the US.

Australia also banned the use of "TikTok" by minors under the age of 16 through a law that was voted in parliament.

So a number of countries are taking measures due to the impact this platform has on society, including Albania.
