CRCA raises the alarm/ We found 3 minor girls "married", one of them

The Center for Children's Rights in Albania (CRCA/ECPAT) has written an open letter to the government after the incident that shocked Albania with the surgeon Dervish Hasi and the minor.

The letter is addressed to the main ministers of the Albanian Government as well as the Attorney General, recommending the adoption of a series of urgent measures to enable the best protection of children in Albania.

CRCA/ECPAT raises the alarm that during this month it found 3 minor girls "married", one of them at the age of 10.

The CRCA/ECPAT states that these "marriages" are nothing more than tools that justify the violence and sexual exploitation of children.

"The issue of early marriages, especially of girls, has long been identified as a serious problem for Albania. Since they are carried out in their customary form and not before the bodies designated by law, the authorities find it difficult to record the true number of early marriages that take place in Albania. However, this does not in any case remove the responsibility of institutions to protect children from sexual exploitation and their exposure in customary marriages contrary to the law.

Only during this month we have faced the case of three girls, who were "married", one of them since the age of 10. The INSTAT data show that in Albania there are about 200 child marriages per year! These "marriages" are nothing but tools that justify violence and sexual exploitation of children, especially girls! The phenomenon must be given its real name!", the letter says, among other things.
