BBC: Rafting crossings, dozens of Albanian children disappear

Almost 20% of unaccompanied Albanian migrant children have disappeared this year, reports the BBC.

According to the local authorities, out of 197 Albanian children headed for England, until October 31, 39 of them have disappeared.

Ecpat UK, which campaigns to protect children from exploitation, said the figures were very worrying.

The council said it worked closely with the Home Office and the police to protect vulnerable children.

The council told the BBC that 197 Albanian children were presented at the Home Office's reception unit in Kent from 1 January to 31 October.

According to Ecpat UK, 39 children are missing.

Më shumë se 12,000 emigrantë nga Shqipëria kanë arritur në Mbretërinë e Bashkuar me anije deri më tani këtë vit, një rritje kjo prej gati 4,000% krahasuar me vitin 2021.

Çështja është nënvizuar nga ministri i Emigracionit Robert Jenrick i cili tha se në disa varka të vogla, 80% e atyre që ishin në bord ishin nga Shqipëria.

Ecpat UK tha se fëmijët e zhdukur mund të shfrytëzohen, të detyrohen të bëjnë punë ndërtimi ose të përfshihen në krime, si për shembull të detyrohen të punojnë në fabrikat e kanabisit.

Në një deklaratë, Këshilli i Qarkut Kent tha se kishte konstatuar "rritje të konsiderueshme" në numrin e fëmijëve shqiptarë të pashoqëruar.

"Kent County Council has used both established safeguarding protocols, including the National Referral Mechanism, and initiated multi-agency strategies to minimize as much as possible the risks to these children.

"The council continues to take a proactive role in protecting all unaccompanied asylum-seeking children in its care," writes the BBC. /CNA.al
