The Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, has spoken about the arrest of Fredi Beleri.
In his response, Mitsotakis demands the release of Beler and the other arrested persons.
Among other things, it underlines that if Albania wants to get closer to the European Union, it has the obligation to ensure free and fair elections.
" Let me here open a parenthesis and say something about an extremely unpleasant event that happened in neighboring Albania, this morning, where unfortunately the candidate for mayor of Himara and member of the Greek National Minority, Fredi Beleri, was arrested.
I want, here from Lesbos, to send a message to my friend, Albania. Greece will not accept the rule of law over the rights of the Greek national minority.
If Albania wants to get closer to the European Union, it has the obligation to ensure free and fair municipal elections and to immediately release those it has imprisoned, so that they can participate in the electoral process", said Mitsotakis, among other things./ CNA .co.uk
