Former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj has been charged with the affair with the Elbasan incinerator.

CNA learns that Ahmetaj was taken as a defendant during the investigations that were carried out related to one of the factions of the investigation files for the Elbasan incinerator.

Accusations of money laundering, corruption and concealment of assets have been brought against him. The investigations are being conducted by Altin Dumani and Enkeleda Millonai. 

For the Elbasan incinerator, three of the accused, Klodian Zoto, Mirel Mërtiri and Stela Gugallja, have been sentenced in absentia by the Special Anticorruption Court.

Zoto was found guilty of active corruption and sentenced to 6.8 years in prison; Mirel Mërtiri was sentenced to 6.8 years in prison and Stela Gugallia was sentenced to 4.8 years in prison.

Lefter Koka was found not guilty of abuse of office, but guilty of corruption and money laundering, while he was sentenced to 5.8 years in prison.

On the other hand, the court acquitted the former Socialist MP, Alqi Blako, of abuse of office.

For two other accused, Bardhyl Cabirin, who was sentenced to 2 years, it was ordered to cancel the measure, and for Serafin Papa, who was sentenced to 1.4 years in prison, it was decided to cancel the measure of house arrest.

Pellumb Abeshi was found guilty and sentenced to 2.8 years in prison. Jonida Zeqo was found guilty and sentenced to 2.8 years in prison./ CNA
