Opposition's accusations about payments to Begaj/ Armed Forces Academy

The Armed Forces Academy reacted this Friday, following accusations raised by the opposition regarding payments made to President Bajram Begaj.

Through a statement, AFA explains that Begaj was part of the scientific teams during the mentioned period, in the capacity of a military doctor, and that this concerns overdue payments.

AFA adds that the payments were made in accordance with the legislation in force on higher education and scientific research.

Clarification on payments

Regarding the payments to which some media have referred, we clarify that: for the engagement of academic staff during the years 2013 - 2018, the Armed Forces Academy, in accordance with the legislation in force and the by-laws regulating higher education and scientific research in the Republic of Albania, has repaid during the years 2022 and 2024 the arrears of financial obligations towards all academic staff involved in this process.

The process was conducted in an equitable, transparent manner and with complete financial and administrative documentation, which can be verified by any competent institution.

AFA remains fully open to any verification by the responsible bodies and invites the media to exercise its mission based on verified facts, avoiding misinforming public opinion. /CNA
