Albania has been gripped by a wave of anti-government protests for a week. It all started with a tense incident between residents and private police in Zvërnec over the cordoning off of an area for a foreign investment, which was then used to start protests in Tirana. ( READ HERE )
Protests have been continuing since that day in the center of Tirana and especially in front of the Prime Minister's Office building, where ordinary citizens and others are demanding the resignation of the head of government, Edi Rama. Meanwhile, protests are also taking place in several other cities in Albania and in the diaspora. ( READ HERE )
The protest was also prompted by a series of claims, mainly from environmentalists and local residents, which were later debunked and all were found to be untrue.
These are frauds spread by various groups linked to Arlind Qori's neo-communist movement, dubious call centers, staff of the arrested mayor of the capital, Erion Veliaj, bloggers, anarchists, anti-national groups, but also agents operating from the Balkan secret services. ( READ HERE )

Contrary to what certain environmental groups claim, the area is not a flamingo habitat. Many activists and protesters have been going there for several weeks and have yet to find a single flamingo in Zvërnec.
The claims that it has been sold and the project has state land are not true. There are issues regarding ownership claimants who are in court. No activist or claimant has yet produced a single document to show that the 200 ha area is being sold by the government on behalf of investors.
In the case of Zvërnec, there are no land purchases or investors from Israel. Photos and propaganda materials circulated on social media claiming that it was Jews who were buying land for their own purposes, mainly instigated by extremist circles and certain groups to further provoke the situation.
The truth is that we are talking about the two Alkhayatt brothers from the state of Qatar, also known as the co-owners of the conglomerate "Power Holding", the buyers of private land and co-investors of the Zvërnec project. This investment in the first estimates is worth 4 billion euros.
The landowners claiming ownership of the area where the investment will take place are not against the project. On the contrary, they have repeatedly expressed through public statements the importance and role of investments in the area, which are expected to provide extensive touristic and economic development. Some of them are demanding the expansion of the area and the inclusion of their properties for development.
These are the truths and manipulations of a propaganda that citizens need to understand, not to stop the protests but to stick to the truth./ CNA
