February 14 is known as the day of lovers. Couples around the world celebrate love and mostly remember each other with gifts. 

Why is this holiday named Saint Valentine?

Saint Valentine is a well-known saint, who lived in the third century in Rome, who is commemorated on February 14. It has been associated since the Middle Ages with the symbol of sincere love. Nothing is known for sure about him, except the fact that he was called Saint Valentine and that he died on February 14th in Via Flaminia, north of Rome.

Today Valentine's Day is a day of celebration in the Anglican and Protestant faith communities. Valentine's Day is celebrated in many countries of the world even though it is a working day. This day was first associated with love from the verses of Geoffrey Cowcer in the Middle Ages, when the tradition of romance flourished.

Today's symbols for Valentine are hearts, doves and the angel Cupid. In the 19th century, Valentine dedications were given through postcards, which became very popular. /CNA
