Three-color traffic lights  have been the shape we've known for decades, but soon, thanks to the evolution of technology, they may need to add another color. 

The reason for adding a fourth color is for autonomous vehicles, which as the number increases will need their own signage.

Therefore, researchers at North Carolina State University propose a fourth color of the traffic light, which will be used by drivers of autonomous vehicles and will "intelligently" handle the flow of traffic.
