Have you lost your suitcase?/ Here's how you can find it through the new

A new technology could help many travelers, as you can now send airlines the location of lost luggage from your phone.

A new feature from Google for Android (in the Find Hub app) allows travelers to share the location of their luggage with the airline if it gets lost.

If you have a tracking tag on your luggage (e.g. a location-tracking device), your phone will find the location of your luggage.

You can create a secure link to the location. The link is sent to the airline through their app or website. This gives airport staff real-time data to help them find your bag faster. Why it's important

Losing luggage is a big problem when traveling.

In 2024, an estimated 33.4 million bags were reported lost, delayed, or damaged. About 47% of travelers say that luggage is one of the top concerns when flying.

This idea is similar to the system used by Apple's AirTag, where users can share the location of their luggage with airlines through the Find My app.

Some airlines that already use this technology are: British Airways, Lufthansa, Qantas, Cathay Pacific, Virgin Atlantic.

An important privacy detail: You can stop sharing your location whenever you want.

The link is automatically deactivated when the phone detects that the luggage has been returned to you. Instead of just the airline searching for the luggage, the passenger can also help by showing exactly where the suitcase is. /CNA
