Sergio Ramos withdraws from Spain: It was not my decision

At the age of 36, Sergio Ramos has announced that he will no longer wear the shirt of the Spanish national team. The decision was not his, as revealed by the PSG center back himself in a letter:

"Today I received a call from the current coach De la Fuente and he told me that he does not count and will not count on me, regardless of the level I can show with the club" - the defender writes, among other things.

The player then adds: "It is with great regret that I announce the end of a journey that I hoped would be longer and end with a better taste, at the level of success we have achieved with "La Guard".

I humbly believe that this trajectory deserved to end if the decision was personal or for my poor performance, but not because of age or other reasons that, without hearing them, I have understood. Because being young or less young is not a virtue or a defect, it is simply a temporary characteristic, not necessarily related to performance or ability."

The last appearance of Sergio Ramos in the shirt of the Red Fury was almost two years ago. Ramos first played for the national team in 2005 and by 2021, he had amassed 180 appearances.
