Renewed with Athletic Bilbao, new clause revealed for Nico Williams

Nico Williams has rejected Barcelona's offer for the second year in a row, signing a new long-term contract with Athletic Bilbao. The Spain international striker has signed until the summer of 2035, a deal that makes him the Basque club's highest-paid player.

The new contract also includes a release clause of over €95m. The 22-year-old was widely tipped for a move to Barcelona, ??but ultimately chose to stay in Bilbao.

The Basque club reacted with irony to Barcelona's interest, using the hashtag "AthleticWIN" in the official announcement.

The new deal includes progressive salary increases based on performance and team results. For Barcelona, ??this refusal constitutes another obstacle in the team's rebuilding process. For Athletic, this is a clear signal of long-term ambitions in the Spanish football elite.
