Refused to play in rainbow jersey, French club fines player and donates money to

Nantes made the decision to play the match against Toulouse in rainbow colored shirts in support of the LGBT community. The club faced opposition from some players, including Mostafa Mohamed. The latter did not appear in the match and has already received the punishment from the club. Nantes fined the player in question and the proceeds from this fine will go to the "SOS Homophobia" foundation. The news was announced by the French club itself on the official website.

"FC Nantes first of all wants to remember its commitment to the fight against homophobia. Last March, the Professional Football League and Yoann Lemaire, from the association Foot Ensamble, were present at La Jonelière to sensitize the Management Committee of FC Nantes, all the employees of the club, as well as the coaches of the Training Center.

Furthermore, every season, FC Nantes takes an active part in the Days of struggle set up by the Professional Football League, especially the one against homophobia. This year, and for the third consecutive season, all players' jerseys are stacked with their numbers in the colors of the rainbow.

FC Nantes striker Mostafa Mohamed refused to take part in the match against Toulouse FC for personal reasons, at a time when FC Nantes are fighting to stay in Ligue 1 Uber Eats. Therefore, the leaders of FC Nantes decided to sanction him financially.

FC Nantes and its Foundation wanted to donate this money to the association SOS HOMOPHOBIE which fights every day against homophobia and which will be able to put it to good use to fight this scourge.

FC Nantes regrets this episode and wants to remind you that it will continue to fight against all forms of discrimination, as it has always done.

"FC Nantes also strongly condemns the threats made against Mostafa Mohamed and his family, both before and after the match," the Nantes club announced.
