The president of FIFA admits that human rights were violated in Qatar during the construction of the stadiums

FIFA president Gianni Infantino believes the World Cup will help Qatar improve its terrible human rights record.

The build-up to the tournament, which begins in just six weeks, has been overshadowed by bad publicity surrounding Qatar's human rights issues and workers' rights.

Speaking at the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) in Doha, Infantino declared: "Qatar has truly become a center of the world."

“Not because of the World Cup, but of course the World Cup focus has also helped to put Qatar on the international map. And things have changed."

"We have talked about workers, about workers' rights and about human rights, some criticisms were raised, rightfully so, and changes have happened," he added.

During the construction of the stadiums, it is known that more than 10,000 people died from the difficult working conditions.
