Portugal starts well, wins over Chile before the World Cup

Portugal started the preparatory phase for the 2026 World Cup with a victory, defeating Chile with a score of 2-1 at the "Estádio Nacional do Jamor" stadium in Lisbon.

The match was marked by a red card for Rafael Leaon and Ivan Roman in the second minute of added time of the first half, leaving both teams with 10 players.

Cristiano Ronaldo had a goal disallowed for offside in the 36th minute. Portugal took the lead in the 58th minute through Gonçalo Guedes, who came off the bench.

In the 75th minute, Bruno Fernandes doubled the lead with his 29th goal for the national team. Chile reduced the deficit in the 92nd minute through Lucas Cepeda, but were unable to avoid defeat.

For Roberto Martinez's team, this was the eighth consecutive match without defeat at home, while now the focus shifts to the final friendly against Nigeria before their World Cup debut.
