After ending the journey at the quarter-final stage of the World Cup in Qatar, Portugal parted ways with coach Fernando Santos. Now, the Federation has started the work to name the new coach, as the target and favorite of the Portuguese top managers is Jose Mourinho.

However, to get to the Special One, the road is complicated as he has a contract with Roma until 2024 and at least for the moment the parties are keen to continue the project. In this form, in Portugal they are also studying other alternatives regarding the successor of Santos and the last name on the list is that of Bruno Lage.

The last experience of the 46-year-old was in the Premier League as he managed the Wolverhampton team for more than a year, while in the past, Lage was in charge of Benfica. A big plus for Lage is the fact that he maintains a close relationship with many Portuguese players, also part of the national team due to his experience with Benfica and Wolverhampton.
