"After careful consideration, I announce my immediate retirement from professional football. I have had the privilege of being a footballer for almost 17 years and I feel very grateful for the opportunity I have had. In the last few weeks and months, after suffering a few more injuries, it became increasingly clear to me that it was time to leave the football scene. It was an incredible journey, accompanied by incredible moments and emotions.
