The family of Ali Daei, the biggest figure in the history of Iranian football, was prevented from leaving Iran. According to local press, Iranian authorities ordered the flight departing from Tehran to Dubai to be diverted to Kish Island.

The complaint for such a thing was made by the former player, the second best scorer in history in the national teams (109 goals in 149 matches), who was surpassed by Cristiano Ronaldo only in June 2021.

"They were not arrested, but no one gave me an explanation of what happened. I don't know the reason for this decision. My wife and daughter would spend a few days in Dubai", he said.

It should be noted that Ali Daei has expressed support for the protests against the death of Mahsa Amini, the 22-year-old girl, after she was accused of wearing the hijab inappropriately. At the time, the former footballer showed support for Iranian women, sharing a message on social media about the 'Free Your Hair' movement: "I will always be on your side."

Recently, the Iranian authorities also confiscated Ali Daei's passport "for courage", and even closed a jewelry store and a restaurant belonging to the former player.
