Free kick goal, Benzema breaks the 14-year curse

At the age of 34, Karim Benzema continues to add records to his repertoire of goals .

Against Espanyol, he scored twice, helping Real to a 1-3 win in Barcelona.

Most notably in his record book was his second personal goal and third of the evening, scored in the 100th minute.

He scored his first goal with Real Madrid from a free kick.

This is only the third free-kick goal in the career of the French national team striker, as he scored the first two with Lyon. (against Saint Etienne and Caen in the 2007-08 season) before moving to Madrid.

With Real Madrid, he had only had 15 opportunities from free kicks. For comparison, Cristiano scored 33 free kick goals with Real in 444 attempts.

The goal scored with a free kick against Espanyol has another peculiarity, because it was not the goalkeeper of the blue and whites - he was punished with a red card - but the defender Cabrera!
