The Dutch Cup semi-final between Feyenoord and Ajax was interrupted for almost 30 minutes after Davi Klaassen suffered a head injury when he was hit by an object thrown from the stands.

The former Everton midfielder was celebrating near the corner flag after giving Ajax the lead early in the second half when he was tackled. The referee led the players into the dressing room tunnel before Ajax won the match 2-1. Police later announced that a 32-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident.

During the 28-minute stoppage time, Feyenoord vice-coach John de Wolff took to the pitch to ask the fans to use logic and stop the rioting before the game restarted. The 30-year-old Klaassen was substituted shortly after kick-off with signs of dizziness.

"There was a tension and I went to calm things down, then something hit me in the head. At first I felt the pain, and then it gave way to irritation, as I was thinking: how is something like this possible", Klaasen told Ajax's official website, adding. "I had a bad feeling about the injury and I couldn't concentrate, so if I had stayed on the field, it wouldn't have helped me or the team."

The match also had a 5-minute delay due to smoke caused by flares before being stopped just 21 seconds after kick-off to wait for the air to clear.

Dusan Tadic put Ajax ahead before Santiago Gimenez equalized for the home side. Despite the incident and an extra-time red card for Ajax's Kenneth Taylor, Klaassen's goal booked the archers a ticket to the final against PSV Eindhoven on 30 April.
