FORMULA 1/ Verstappen takes pole position at the last second

Max Verstappen has managed to secure pole position for tomorrow's sprint race at the Austrian Formula 1 Grand Prix, in qualifying that was interrupted twice due to accidents in the Mercedes cars of Hamilton and Russell.

Leclerc and Sainz set the fastest times in qualifying three and were tipped to hold the front line in the sprint race that awards World Cup points in addition to places at the start of Sunday's race. But on the very last lap, at the last second, Verstappen gave an impressive lap by regaining the first place to pass the two Ferrari cars.

Behind them is Sergio Perez in the other Red Bull car, but the Mexican is under investigation by the marshals after repeatedly breaking the track limits during fast laps and could be penalized for the start of the sprint race.
