Arsenal ignites the market, "kidnaps" the super star of Ajax

Arsenal have reportedly reached a full agreement with Ajax to sign defender Jurrien Timber. According to Athletic journalist David Ornstein, Arsenal have agreed an initial fee of 40 million euros plus another 5 million euros in mostly achievable bonuses.

The 22-year-old defender has been granted permission to undergo a medical and complete the deal on personal terms. Arsenal tabled a €35m bid for Timber last month, which Ajax rejected.

The Dutch giants were demanding a higher fee for a player who has two years left on his contract.

Timber featured 34 times in the Eredivisie last year in what was a disappointing season for Ajax, scoring twice and registering two assists. The central defender, who can also operate as a right defender, has also played 15 times for the Dutch national team.
