High temperatures/ AKMC: Avoid actions that promote fires

The National Civil Protection Agency has called this Friday for all citizens to be extra careful, due to the high temperatures that have affected not only our country, but also the region.

Through an announcement on social networks, AKMC calls for increased caution regarding fires, or actions that may cause them to ignite. Regarding the fire situation, the Civil Protection Agency has brought examples from the countries of the region and Europe.

Increased Caution for High Temperatures and the Danger of Fires in Albania and the Region. Considering the increase in temperatures and the high risk of fires, we call for increased caution for all citizens in Albania. Situation in the Region:

– Portugal: Two large fires have burned 167 ha in Castro Verde and 116 ha in Aljustrel. Both fires were extinguished with national capacities.

– Cyprus: A fire in Nicosia District has burned 240 ha of forest and agricultural land, and was extinguished within 24 hours.

- Greece: A large fire near Athens threatened homes due to strong winds. The residents of Kitsi village were evacuated and 145 firefighters and 17 air vehicles were deployed. Currently, an active fire in the Peloponnese has burned about 500 ha of vegetation.

Forecasts for the weekend referring to the Bulletin of the European Emergency Response Coordination Center (ERCC):

– Southern Italy, Greece and Western and Central Turkey:

Very high or extreme fire risk values ??are predicted with temperatures above 30°C and daily relative humidity below 20%. Moderate to strong winds and lack of precipitation make the situation worse.

– Western Balkans and Hungary: Moderate fire risk conditions are higher than the historical average for this period.
