ISHMT inspections: Cleaner market, but children's toys remain a problem

Toys and children's products, which parents buy with the belief that they are safe, have once again been under the scrutiny of the State Market Surveillance Inspectorate.

Of the 279 toys tested, three did not meet safety standards, a detail that raises concerns, despite positive results in most products on the market.

According to the annual report of the State Inspectorate of Market Surveillance, the focus of inspections has been on toys, detergents, textiles, footwear and children's products such as strollers, pacifiers and cutlery. A total of 12 administrative measures have been imposed from the inspections, including 11 fines and one warning.

The most sensitive element remains the toy market. During 2024, the ISHMT carried out 43 inspections of economic operators that import or distribute toys. Out of 279 products checked, 3 of them were found not to be in compliance with the legislation on toy safety. An administrative fine was imposed for this violation.

Meanwhile, the control of detergents, another category that directly affects consumers, resulted in no violations. Out of 113 inspections conducted at manufacturing and importing entities, all 956 products tested were in compliance with labeling and composition rules.

The textile and footwear sector has also shown full compliance with the standards. ISHMT reported 47 inspections for the labeling of footwear materials and 114 for textile products, with no products found to be problematic.

The institution emphasizes that it has also focused on children's products, where 181 items such as pacifiers, strollers and strollers were inspected, which resulted in compliance with safety standards.

Another priority has been the monitoring of plastic bags, in implementation of the legal ban on bags that do not meet environmental criteria. For this category, 2 fines have been imposed for violations of the legislation./ Monitor
