June 5, World Environment Day

World Environment Day, also known as International Environment Day, falls on June 5. This date is the UN's primary tool for encouraging awareness and action to protect our environment globally and locally.

June 5 was designated as World Environment Day in 1972 by the UN General Assembly in order to raise awareness of environmental issues and to draw political attention to these issues as well as to encourage individual action in this direction.

This date was chosen because it coincides with the opening day of the United Nations Conference on the Environment, held in 1972 in Stockholm, under the auspices of the United Nations Environment Programme. June 5 as a festive and world environmental day has been celebrated since 1974.

The purpose of this event is to promote activities and actions to achieve positive changes in environmental protection. This day is usually accompanied by a certain theme.

In the past, the topics of this event have been land and water care, protection of the ozone layer, climate change and sustainable development, always focusing on the preservation of human health./ CNA.al
