Today, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized the use of bivalent vaccines from "Moderna" and "Pfizer-BioNTech" against Covid-19.

Bivalent vaccines should be used as a single booster dose at least two months after primary or booster vaccination.

Bivalent vaccines, which we will also refer to as "repeat boosters", contain two components of the RNA (mRNA) of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Moderna's bivalent vaccine is authorized for use as a single booster dose in individuals over 18 years of age, while Pfizer-BioNTech's is authorized for use as a single booster dose in individuals over 12 years of age.

Dr. Peter Marks, a senior FDA official who oversees vaccines, said he hopes the updated booster shot will build more immunity in people and that it won't be necessary to get "many shots" each year.

"We don't know yet if we will reach the same level, but this is the goal here ," Marks emphasized./ BA - CNA.al
