"The elections were polarized and distrustful"/ OSCE Ambassador

The head of the OSCE/ODIHR observation mission, Ambassador Lamberto Zannier, said today that the attacks among the main leaders of the election campaign, especially the online campaign, showed that there was extreme polarization and distrust in the process. The statements were made during the presentation of some of the findings from the document drafted by the internationals.

In a press conference, Zannier expressed concern that concerns were registered about pressure on the public administration and the misuse of state resources.

Zannier added that the latest finding showed a lack of equality in the electoral race.

"The campaign was generally calm, but there were attacks between the main campaign leaders, especially online, which shows extreme polarization and distrust. An important role of long-term observers is also the interaction with the local population. We have repeatedly heard concerns about pressures from public administration officials, the use of state resources that was also seen by the monitors in many cases where large programs were announced even a day before the election or the forgiveness of fines. These practices gave an unfair advantage to the ruling party, leading to an uneven playing field," said Zannier. /CNA
