The Chairman of the CEC, Ilirian Celibashi, held a meeting with the British Ambassador to Albania, Nicholas Abbott, within the framework of the May 11 elections.

In a post on the "X" network, Celibashi said that during the meeting with the Ambassador, they discussed the topic of voting from abroad and the challenges of organizing this process.

Celibashi emphasized that they also discussed the measures to be taken to prevent the sale of votes, as well as avoiding the abuse of state resources in the campaign and increasing the role of other institutions in the fight against electoral crimes.

"We welcomed today to the CEC, the British Ambassador to Albania, Mr. Nicholas Abbott, with whom we held an open conversation on the CEC's preparations for the Elections for the Albanian Assembly on May 11, 2025.

After discussing the developments and the political environment in this pre-election period, we delved into the topic of voting from abroad and the challenges of organizing this process.

We shared our views and efforts on important issues such as the measures taken to prevent vote buying, avoiding the abuse of state resources in the campaign and increasing the role of other institutions in the fight against electoral crimes.

With Ambassador Abbott, we also focused on the fulfillment by the CEC of the recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR and the need for the full implementation of the recommendations that require legislative intervention from the Assembly.

We discussed in detail the innovations of the Financial Reporting Platform and the promotion of the supervisory role of civil society on election financing. With Ambassador Abbott, we agreed on the unique importance of the upcoming election process related to Albania's full membership in the EU.
