The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has reacted on social networks regarding the checks carried out this Friday in his apartment and offices and that of his wife, Ajola Xoxa, as well as in the apartment of his brother, Arbër Veliaj.

Veliaj has for the first time accepted SPAK's property investigation against him and his family members.

He has raised accusations against the opposition and the media, when in fact neither one nor the other can do checks and investigative procedures, but only denounce corruption and scandals in the municipality headed by Veliaj.

"Based on today's developments, the procedural steps taken by the special prosecutor's office in relation to the property investigation being carried out against me and my family members are not only welcome, but I also support them at every step.

It has been a long time since my investigation and judgment have been done by the opposition mired in the scum of corruption and the "so-called media", who fight every public official who does not succumb to their pressure and blackmail for unfair benefits.

My family members and I, as a citizen of this country, but also in the capacity of the Mayor of Tirana, will always be open to any action and decision of the justice institutions, but at the same time disdaining any untruth, which aims to damage my image and that of my family members, as well as spreading, above all, disinformation about the work of these institutions.

I do not belong to that old political caste who, for too long, placed themselves above law, above justice and above institutional accountability. All these who owe justice, raise the banner of supporting justice when procedural actions are carried out in accordance with the law and the decisions of the courts, and attack it with every means now that justice has begun to act on them, thus breaking the many-year-old taboo of impunity", Veliaj emphasized./ CNA
