Albania signs 3 international conventions of the Council of Europe

This Monday in Strasbourg, three international conventions of the Council of Europe were signed.

As officially announced, the Minister of Justice, Toni Gogu, was also present, who described it as an important step in consolidating Albania's legal framework and deepening our country's commitment to the European values ??of the rule of law.

First, the Council of Europe Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence, Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law, the first legally binding international treaty to regulate artificial intelligence, commits Albania to protecting citizens' rights, the independence of the judiciary and the integrity of democratic processes from the risks of AI systems.

Second, the Convention for the Protection of the Profession of Lawyers, open for signature only in May 2025 and already signed by the European Union, reinforces the guarantee of the independence of lawyers as an insurmountable condition for access to justice and the rule of law.

Third, the International Convention on the Establishment of the International Claims Commission for Ukraine confirms Albania's clear position: international law is protected not by words, but by actions. Whoever violates the independence of a sovereign state bears responsibility for the damage caused. /CNA
