"You are the most discriminated against in the region and Europe"/ Berisha meets with farmers in Cërrik

The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, held a meeting with farmers in Cërrik today.

During his speech, Berisha stated that Albanian farmers are today the most discriminated against in the region and Europe, as according to him they provide 20% of domestic production and receive 0.19% of it.

Among other things, he said that the budget fund for agriculture is a ridiculous figure. He added that farmers in other countries in the region have at least six times more subsidies than Albanian farmers.

"Meeting with farmers is meeting with people who build their livelihoods on their toil, sweat and sacrifice. In this regard, the workers of the land are the foundation workers. They are people of sacrifice, of toil, but also of honor and dignity. That is why it is always a pleasure to meet you. And I come here to guarantee you that for us your support, the support of Albanian farmers is one of the greatest advantages.

Because in the fields, on the slopes, in the valleys of this country there is an extraordinary potential for production, income not only for families but for the nation as a whole. Today, you, unfortunately, are the most discriminated farmers in the region and in Europe. You give 20% of the domestic production and receive 0.19% of it. There is no greater inequality and injustice than this. Let's put it into other figures: the budget fund for agriculture is actually 32 million euros.

In numbers it is 52 million, but that part is taken by the bureaucracy and the administration. Farmers were left with 32 million euros for all their activities. There is no more ridiculous figure. Absolutely every other farmer outside the borders of this country, without going down to Greece because it is completely different there, but taking Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro, they have at least six times more subsidies.

At least six times more. What happens like this? And besides the subsidy, all these countries without exception, farmers get oil at half the price you get. You may be surprised, but there is an absolutely hostile policy towards you", Berisha said. /CNA
