Prime Minister Edi Rama criticized the European Union during his speech at the conference for the 25th anniversary of the declaration of Kosovo's Independence.

Rama said that the future of Kosovo should not depend on the consent of Serbia. He stated that the meetings with the mediation of internationals between Kosovo and Serbia do not bring a solution.

The head of the government declared that Serbia may never recognize Kosovo, but emphasized that this should not hinder the way of recognition of the latter.

"Today we are in a process where the approach of foreign policy, as internal policy, is deepened even more. This may be electorally successful, but it leaves Kosovo with fewer and fewer friends. If Kosovo were to get out of this 'cat and mouse' game with Serbia, we are here to talk to the EU, to fulfill the obligations we have, as the Republic of Kosovo, in the context of EU standards and to to get closer to you. Then what does Serbia do, go and deal with it. These meetings to close for hours lead nowhere. I know what the future of Kosovo, which wants to join the EU and NATO, has to do with what Serbia likes or dislikes. Serbia may never come to terms with the idea that it will never recognize Kosovo. But this should not prevent Kosovo from continuing its path towards recognition. This would take Kosovo out of the trap Serbia has put it in. We are a small nation, we have two small states. We are not the navel of the world. How many times have we believed this, we have suffered a lot. "Kosovo is very beautiful, it has all the possibilities and there is no need to waste time running around," Rama underlined./ CNA
