The chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has declared that he is fully in support of the teachers, stating that their protest is legitimate and fair.

Greeting the lecturers who responded to the union's call, Berisha says that the lecturers are not asking for anything more than they deserve. 

"Today the country's universities were on strike and I want to warmly greet all those lecturers, university employees and students who responded to the calls of their unions to launch a powerful strike which has the main objective of realizing the legal demands of the union of universities.

After the cynical, arrogant, irresponsible attitude of the government, the union decided to call for a boycott of classes in the country's universities. This decision is extremely important in order to prevent the extinction of our universities.

Teachers, employees and students are not asking for anything other than what their colleagues in Pristina enjoy today. Today at the University of Pristina salaries are approximately twice as high as at the University of Tirana", said Berisha./CNA.al
