Former president Alfred Moisiu has severely criticized Greece this Friday for the clashes with Albania, because of the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, who is in jail and has not been sworn in yet.

Moisiu said in Euronews Albania that Greece is using a pretext that does not honor it at all, so it must turn around.

"A pretext is a pretext. In this case, Germany said that bilateral problems cannot be confused with the frontal problems that Europe has. This should have been a lesson for Greece. Greece's veto is intolerable. Greece must turn around. It cannot continue in 2023 with the methods of 1945, Beleri is known who he is. But holding a figure like Beleri to create clashes between two neighboring countries shows an outdated political attitude. Today, when everyone is trying to enter Europe, it is good for Greece too that the Balkans stop being in a situation where there are unprecedented events. Greece is not honored by such a stance. We have been correct and we are in our social and neighborly relations and we want them to be correct towards us as well", he said.

The former president recalled his statement about Greece during the participation in the 2003 Summit in Thessaloniki and stressed that a common way of communication should be found with the neighbor.

"I always use a word that was first used at the 2003 summit in Thessaloniki. You can choose your friend, but God gives you your neighbor. So we have to find a way to co-exist with the neighbor, I speak when we have contradictions, no longer with a neighbor who is on a common path in terms of economic and defense policy", underlined Alfred Moisiu./ CNA
