The presidency

Today Ilir Meta hands over the baton to the new president Bajram Begaj.

After 5 years at the head of the state, Meta will make way for the president elected by the majority in the Assembly, where the swearing-in ceremony will be held today in a special session.

It is expected that all parliamentary groups will be in the Assembly, except for the deputies supporting Sali Berisha, who have not yet given a confirmation.

The Assembly will meet today at 18:00 and Begaj, according to the procedure, will swear with his hand on the constitution. Then he will head towards the Presidency.

Atje Ilir Meta do ta presë përmes një ceremonie shtetërore për t’i dorëzuar zyrtarisht detyrën. Tekstin e betimit në Presidencë, Begajt do t’ia lexojë kryetarja e Gjykatës Kushtetuese, Vitore Tushaj.

Më pas, Ilir Meta do të lërë Presidencën dhe nga ky moment nis një cikël i ri për Begajn si president i Republikës. Ai u zgjodh kryetar i ri i shtetit në qershor. Në seancën parlamentare të 4 qershorit 2022, Begaj u zgjodh President i ri i Shqipërisë me 78 vota pro, 4 kundër dhe 1 abstenim. Edhe këtë herë Shqipëria nuk ka një president konsensual, të gjithëpranuar, pasi marrëveshja mes opozitës dhe mazhorancës dështoi.
