The Medical University of Tirana has taken another important step towards internationalization, with the signing of a memorandum of cooperation with the "San Raffaele" Hospital and the "Vita-Salute San Raffaele" University of Milan, one of the most renowned academic and research institutions in the world.

The signing ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Edi Rama, Minister of Education and Sports Ogerta Manastirliu, Minister of Health and Social Protection Albana Koçiu, directors and academic staff of both universities, as well as doctors, professors and students.

In her speech during the meeting, the Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, emphasized:

"The agreement signed between the Medical University of Tirana and the 'Vita-Salute San Raffaele' University and the two respective hospitals is an important moment for higher education. I am pleased that we have reached another station on this journey towards the internationalization of higher education, but also another achievement that will aim to increase the level of clinical services and health services in the country."

Speaking about reforms in higher education, Manastirliu said:

"It is a milestone in higher education in the entire reform that we have undertaken, including here the priority over our priorities, internationalization, where now not only between partnership agreements with European universities, but also with the opening of campuses of European universities in Albania, we are continuing to expand the base of higher education by increasing the interest not only of local students, but also of foreign ones to study in Albania, in universities that have partnerships, offer joint study programs and also double degrees, now also with campuses of European universities, such as the campus of the College of Europe in Tirana, the campus of the University of Distance Studies of Spain and we are also working to open the third campus, that of the Technological University of Compiègne at the Polytechnic University of Tirana.
On the other hand, we have concluded very important agreements to achieve excellence in higher education between the Agricultural University of Tirana and the BOKU University of Vienna. A process of radical transformation of study programs is taking place there and by 2030 we will have joint UBT-BOKU degrees, which will enable all study programs to be attractive not only to local students, but also to foreign ones, given that all programs will be in a foreign language in addition to the standard of the programs that will be equal to those of the BOKU University of Vienna."

Regarding the importance of the signed agreement for the field of medicine and scientific research, Minister Manastirliu stated:

"This agreement will provide strategic consultancy for the University of Medicine's programs, will offer joint training between our academic staff and, above all, will enable a more integral connection between the scientific research centers that should immediately be absorbed by the 'Mother Teresa' University Hospital Center."

At the conclusion of her speech, Manastirliu added:

"Through this agreement where we are ready as the Ministry of Education and Sports, the University of Medicine and also through the funds of the Agency for Scientific Research and Innovation, we aim for what is a priority for us, which is excellence, and I am convinced that through this partnership we will have excellence in academic programs, excellence in scientific research and above all excellence in clinical services to citizens."

The agreement is expected to give a new impetus to the quality of higher education in Albania, positively influencing the improvement of health services for citizens./CNA
