Veliaj's arrest/ Rama: I don't care if Erion is innocent or guilty

Prime Minister Edi Rama said today that he does not know and it is not up to him to say whether Eeion Veliaj is innocent or guilty.

Prime Minister Rama made this comment on the Veliaj case during his speech at the Ceremony of the 105th anniversary of Tirana as the capital, where he was invited.

Rama requested that Veliaj, like any other citizen, be presumed innocent until the investigation is completed.

"Whoever is elected has a daily account to give. Whoever chooses to take the elected person without trial and lock him in a detention cell, certainly does not give an account to the citizens who elected the mayor."

 

I don't know and it's not up to me to say whether Erion is innocent or guilty.

 

"But I know that the presumption of innocence for an elected person, in office, is not simply an obligation towards him, but also towards those who elected him," Rama said. / CNA
