Enkelejd Alibeaj, the commander-in-chief of the Democratic Party, resigned today.

Alibeaj, who was not elected by the democrats to head the Democratic Party, but was appointed to this post after the resignation of Lulzim Basha, has fled with his head down after the deep defeat in the local elections.

In a statement to the media, he stated that he will also leave the leadership position in the Parliamentary Group.

"The May 14 elections, obviously, had serious problems: pressure on the administration, use of strongmen, use of oligarchs, defective electronic system, etc. But, first of all, we have to look at ourselves. We must seriously analyze the effects of the split of the Democratic Party on the outcome of the elections. We must properly evaluate the work done on the ground by the party structures, everyone's commitment, everyone's contribution, to understand what went wrong and what went right. As a sign of reflection and responsibility, I have decided to leave the leadership of the party and also from the leadership position in the parliamentary group", said Alibeaj./ CNA.al
