We have always known that swimming with a full stomach can cause us cramps, and that makes us unable to swim and as a result we risk drowning...

But is this true?

According to the BBC, the causes of cramps are still not fully understood. There's no evidence to suggest that swimming after a meal causes you to cramp. What we do know, however, is that vigorous exercise directs blood flow away from the digestive tract and toward the skin, muscles, arms, and legs. So if your food is still "half-digested", this may make you a little nauseous. Thats all. It's worth noting that all the studies that have been done involved athletes who took part in long-distance races or even triathlons - which require much more strength and endurance than children's swimming on holiday. Professional swimmers make sure they don't race on a full stomach, but make sure they've eaten enough to have the fuel they need to perform at their best. When swimmers undertake very long distances they also consume food during the race. If they experience cramps, these are more the result of overexertion, not food related.

Now, as to the sea: If we have a jam, is there any indication that the unfortunate event will lead to drowning?

If a child is shallow when he has a cramp, he can stand up and escape danger. A child would only be in danger if he were in the deep, away from other people and away from anything he could use as support. It is true that many children drown every year. In China it is the leading cause of death for children. However, food doesn't seem to be the cause anywhere! The US Centers for Disease Control, for example, cites a lack of swimming skills and a lack of safety measures in pools as the main causes of drowning./CNA
