Princess Kate undertakes first official overseas trip in more than 3 years

Kate Middleton will make her first official overseas trip in over three years after announcing a visit to Italy next week as part of her campaign for children.

Next Wednesday, the princess will travel to Reggio Emilia, Italy, for a two-day working visit with the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, which she founded in 2021 and has described as her "life's work".

The 44-year-old Princess of Wales has not made an official overseas trip since December 2022, when she accompanied her husband, Prince William, to Boston for the Earthshot Awards. Her last solo trip was to Denmark in February of the same year.

The visit marks a major step in her return to full royal duties after a difficult health period that included a cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy.

In January 2024, Kate was admitted to hospital for major abdominal surgery and was later diagnosed with cancer, which led to her undergoing preventive chemotherapy and a significant withdrawal from public life. /CNA
