Rare fossil discovered/ Huge sea monster found on English rocks

The fossilized skull of a sea monster has been excavated from the cliffs of the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, south-west England.

It belongs to a pliosaur, a ferocious reptile that terrorized the oceans about 150 million years ago.

The 2-meter-long fossil is one of the most complete specimens of its kind ever discovered and is providing new insights into this ancient predator.

"It's one of the best fossils I've ever worked with. What makes it unique is that it's complete.

The lower jaw and upper skull are connected together, as they would be in life. In the entire world, almost no specimens have been found at that level of detail. And if they are, a lot of parts are missing, whereas this one, although it's slightly distorted - has every bone present," paleontologist Steve Etches told BBC News.

The pliosaur has 130 teeth, especially those in the front, which are long and sharp. Sharp teeth helped this monster tear its prey instantly./ CNA
