A 7-year-old girl has received the most precious gift for her birthday, after discovering the 2.95-carat golden-brown diamond while celebrating in a park in Arkansas.

She found the diamond while celebrating her seventh birthday at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Arkansas, according to a news release from the park.

The Sept. 1 discovery "is the second largest recorded by a park visitor this year, topped only by a 3.29-carat brown diamond discovered in March," the release said.

"Brown was visiting the park with her father and grandmother while celebrating her birthday," the announcement said. "Brown picked up a gem about the size of a green pea from a trail along the northeast side of the search area." Park officials later confirmed that Broën had indeed discovered a diamond, the release said.

“The Aspen diamond has a golden brown color and an amazing brilliance. It is a complete crystal with no broken faces and a small crack on one side," said Waymon Cox, the park's assistant superintendent, in a statement. "It is certainly one of the most beautiful diamonds I have seen in recent years."

One or two visitors discover diamonds in the park each day, according to the release. Over 75,000 diamonds have been found in the country since a farmer first identified diamonds in the ground.

The 37-acre field where visitors can hunt for treasure is the eroded surface of a volcanic crater, according to the park.

In addition to diamonds, other precious gems such as amethysts are found as a result of the unique geology of the site./ CNA
