Margarita Xhepa, one of the Great Ladies of Albanian Theater and Film

Margarita Xhepa, the star of Albanian cinema, has passed away at the age of 91.

Margarita Xhepa is one of the Great Ladies of Albanian theater and film who has carved the memory of the Albanian public with brilliant roles since her beginnings, in the 60s, and until now.

In May 2004, she returned to the stage of the National Theater to excel in the drama "Streha e të harruarve", another success in her 50-year career.

From 1950, she was active as an artist at the People's Theater, now the National Theater, and at the same time she studied at the Artistic Lyceum, Drama branch.

She has played over 150 roles in theater , among which we can mention: Majlinda in the film "Majlinda", Dafina in "The Dead River", Filja in "The Little Girl of the Mountains", Mrs. Mother in "Who Brought Doruntina", Mother in "In Front of Yourself", etc.

She has been equally successful in roles in world dramaturgy, such as Ophelia in "Hamlet", the second daughter in "King Lear", the nanny in "Romeo and Juliet", and Queen Margaret in "Richard III", by Shakespeare.

Other roles from world dramaturgy include Clea in “The Fox and the Grapes” (Figereido), Lena in “Uncle Vanya” (Chekhov), Lady Milford in “Louise Miller” (Schiller), Mrs. Berling in “The Inspector’s Visit” (Priestly), Mrs. Loman in “Death of a Commissioner” (A. Miller), Anna Andreyevna in “The Inspector” (Gogol), Marcella in “The Gardener’s Dog” (De Vega), Mashenka in “Mashenka” (Afigenov), Shejla in “The Morality of Mrs. Dulska” (Zapolska), or Dado in “Sophocles’ Electra”, under the direction of Greek director Dimitri Mavrikis, at the National Theater of Greece in Athens.

In addition to roles in theater, he has also performed 32 roles in cinematography, working with most Albanian directors.

In 1997, she starred in the Greek film "Goodbye" (directed by J. Koras, K. Vupuras). The film was awarded the Grand Prize at the International Mediterranean Film Festival in Thessaloniki, while Margarita Xhepa was awarded the Honorary Prize./ CNA
