The city of Korça is in mourning after the news of the passing of former mayor Dhionis Robert Kotmilo, who passed away at the age of 85. Kotmilo was a well-known and respected figure in the Korça community, leaving behind an important legacy in local administration.
He led the Municipality of Korça from 1996 to 2000, a period filled with great challenges for the city and the entire country, including the 1997 riots and the Kosovo humanitarian crisis. During his four years at the helm of the municipality, Kotmilo faced difficult situations, but stood out for his dedication and ability to maintain balance in a turbulent period. He played a key role in managing the Kosovo refugee crisis in 1999, taking care of the accommodation and well-being of thousands of displaced people.
With his open and collaborative approach, he earned the respect of citizens and his colleagues in the administration.
His family remembers him as an honest and dedicated man, who always remained true to his principles. His brother Gjergji Kotmilo says that Robert was a model citizen, who worked with dedication and without making political distinctions in cooperation with colleagues and institutions.
"The memories of a brother towards his brother are numerous, giving you details is a bit difficult and perhaps they are incomplete. I always keep my impressions of my brother for his great citizenship, a great example to others."
This made him a representative of the people of Korça in the municipality. He was also the chairman of the Municipal Council 4 years ago, he had a long period in local government. His example is extraordinary, maybe this is relative because I am his brother. He certainly cooperated with the institutions, with the government, with the leaders, because he did not exclude anyone and did not make political differences towards his colleagues. He was a close collaborator with all those who worked with him.
He is a great example and contribution of how you can administer a city. I will remember him as a brother, as a citizen, as a man dedicated to giving the maximum of his knowledge, his qualities, his virtues. I believe that he left a good impression on all the fellow citizens of the city of Korça. Moreover, he was a mayor who could not set an example more than that because his period of administration of the city was short, 4 years.
"He went through a difficult period over 4 years, he went through 1992, he went through the Kosovo War, where 3 thousand displaced citizens of Kosovo came here, which he managed perfectly."
His relatives and acquaintances describe him as a man of great values, who gave a lot to society. Even after leaving public life, Kotmilo remained a respected figure, being appreciated for his contribution to the development of Korça and his dedication to the citizens. The Municipality of Korça and the local community have expressed their condolences for the loss of one of the leaders who left a mark on the history of the city.
"Berti is a perfect man, a man of pure soul, who gave a lot to society. He was such a pure man that he didn't even clean his house, which was in such a state, an honorable man. He has received praise but I don't know how much he deserved. He was a perfect man, you can't say he lacked anything. He had great values ??because he was a man of capacity who gave a lot to society. He wanted to see his country as prosperous as possible, that was his desire."
"I had a first cousin of my husband. Berti was a perfect man, very humane, very honest and intelligent. He did for everyone. He was appreciated, we know that he was an honorable and respected man by everyone. The municipality also honored him, and everyone was sorry that we lost him."
"We were brothers-in-law to Berti. He was a perfect man, intelligent, he knew all sectors of life and he graduated with excellent grades because we were the same age and he graduated from Raqi Qirinxhi Gymnasium with excellent grades, those were golden years. Berti was very dedicated to his duty and in all areas of life. It was in his nature, not that the municipality didn't do it, it did its honors until the end of its life and it was rewarded."
The passing of Dhioni Robert Kotmilos leaves a huge void, not only for his family and friends, but also for the citizens of Korça, who will always remember him with respect and gratitude for his contribution. He remains a symbol of dedication and honesty in service to the community, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered for years to come./ CNA
