A 50-year-old Albanian man has been investigated by the Shkodra police after abandoning his minor son (9 years old) in France, in order to seek asylum in this country.

Under investigation is HF, 50 years old, who crossed the border on January 22, 2020 together with his minor son, with the relevant authorization from the son's mother, and on January 9, 2023, he returned to Albania, without the son.

Specialists of the Shkodra Local Directorate of Border and Migration have intensified the measures for the identification and legal punishment of those citizens who abandon minor children, in EU countries or in other countries, with the aim of seeking asylum.

A 50-year-old man is being prosecuted, after abandoning his minor son (9 years old) in France, in order to seek asylum in this country.

Specialists of the Shkoder Local Directorate of Border and Migration, following the work for the prevention and identification of cases of abandonment of children or minor family members, in EU countries or in other countries, for the purpose of seeking asylum, have intensified the work for detailed control of travel documentation and interviews for the reason and purpose of traveling abroad or of those who return to Albania, abandoning children/minor family members, in order to seek asylum.

As a result, a case of abandonment of minor children in EU countries, with the aim of seeking asylum, has been identified. For this case, the materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office and the proceedings started in a free state for the citizen HF, 50 years old, resident in Vlora, for the criminal offense "Abandonment of minor children".

This citizen, on 22.01.2020, crossed the border in PKK Muriqan, together with his minor son, with the relevant authorization from the son's mother, and on 09.01.2023, he returned to Albania, without their son. From the verifications carried out, it turned out that this citizen abandoned his 9-year-old son in France, with the aim of seeking asylum.

The Border Police will continue checks at all crossing points, for documentation, as well as interviews for fulfilling the conditions for movement to EU countries or other countries, for all citizens.

In addition, the close cooperation with the counterparts of all the countries of the SCHENGEN space and beyond will continue, for the verification, identification and legal punishment of all those who abandon minors, for the purpose of seeking asylum.

The State Police appeals to all citizens not to undertake any action aimed at seeking asylum, as the chances of obtaining it are zero. The State Police is determined to legally punish all cases of abandonment of minor children, abroad, for the purpose of seeking asylum. / CNA
