The prosecution explains the incident in Shkodër/ How the mother drowned

The Shkodra Prosecutor's Office clarified the event that shocked Albania. The prosecution announces that the mother with the initials AA, on the afternoon of May 2, had a coffee with her sister-in-law and her 3 children.

Afterwards, she left with the children, telling her sister-in-law that she would go to her brother's house for a week to calm down and that the latter was going to pick them up by taxi.

From the footage, the prosecution has evidenced that the citizen AA, together with her three children, walked on the sidewalk of the road that leads to the old "Buna Bridge", in the direction of the "Church of Our Lady".

The mother, in a serious psychological state, allegedly abandoned the children and then threw herself into the Buna River.

According to the prosecution, the cause of the tragic event is suspected to have been continuous psychological violence by the husband, manifested in the form of continuous insults and adultery, seriously affecting the dignity of the mother.

For this reason, EA's husband is in handcuffs, who is accused of the criminal offense of 'causing suicide'.

The prosecution at the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction Shkodër has registered criminal proceedings no. 511/2024, on the basis of the procedural materials forwarded by the Shkodër Police Station, referred to the commission of the criminal offense "Causing suicide", provided for by Article 99 of the Criminal Code, in charge of the EA citizen

From the data of the investigation acts up to this stage, it has emerged that on 03.05.2024, around 5:30 p.m., citizen EA, who reported the departure from the apartment of his wife, citizen AA, appeared at the Shkodër Police Station , together with their three minor children. In relation to this fact, the statements of the persons who have knowledge of the event were received, from which it was found that on 02.05.2024, in the afternoon, the AA citizen with her minor children went to drink coffee with her sister-in-law, the VP citizen, in the neighborhood "Illyria" Shkodër. They stayed there for about two hours and then the AA citizen told her sister-in-law that her brother would take her from there by taxi, as she would go to his house for a week to calm down. From the administration of film footage, after being separated from her sister-in-law, citizen AA, together with her three children, walked on the sidewalk of the road that leads to the old "Buna Bridge", in the direction of the "Church of Our Lady", Shkodër. Exit from the bar is at 20:10 on 02.05.2024.

In the following, the police services announced that the citizen AA and her three children were wanted by the police.

Subsequently, on 04.05.2024 around 22:00, the police services were notified that the lifeless body of a minor child was found on the side of the Buna River in the village of Darragjat, Dajç Administrative Unit, identified as the citizen EA date of birth 20.10.2015. In the presence of the coroner, the corpse was examined and no signs of violence were found. It has been decided to carry out a medical-legal examination for the EA citizen, in order to determine the injuries found on the victim's body and to determine the cause of death.

On the part of the judicial police, an EA citizen's residence was checked, where no illegal items were found.

Up to this stage, reasonable suspicions have been created based on evidence that the EA citizen, as a result of continuous psychological violence against his wife, manifested in the form of continuous insults and adultery, severely affecting her dignity, has caused the suicide of citizen AA, who in a serious psychological state is suspected to have been thrown into the river together with her three minor children.

Under these conditions, the detention of the EA citizen was carried out, as a suspect for committing the criminal offense "Causing suicide" provided for by Article 99 of the Criminal Code.

The investigations are continuing with the aim of reviewing all the video footage of the cameras around the scene of the incident in order to discover the itinerary of the citizen AA and the minor children, the questioning of the persons who have knowledge of the incident and conducting other investigations with the aim of collecting necessary data related to the complete clarification of the circumstances of the criminal fact and for the individualization of criminal responsibility./ CNA
